Questa notte hanno avuto luogo le premiazioni per gli MTV Video Music Awards 2021, tra i riconoscimenti più ambiti dagli artisti e indubbiamente uno degli eventi più attesi dell'anno. Lo show si è tenuto al Barclays Center di Brooklyn, New York, ed è stato presentato da una Doja Cat nel doppio ruolo di host e performer.

In occasione dei 40 anni celebrati da MTV, la serata è stata aperta da Madonna, sicuramente tra gli artisti che più hanno contribuito al successo dell'emittente. In un completo di pelle nera, la Regina Del Pop si è esibita sulle note della sua hit “Vogue”, lasciando poi la scena a Jennifer Lopez, anche lei invitata per fare gli auguri a MTV.

Tra i protagonisti dell'evento non possiamo non citare Lil Nas X, che ha portato a casa ben quattro premi su cinque nomination: con la sua "MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name)", il rapper ha infatti ottenuto il riconoscimento più importante, ovvero quello di Video Of The Year, trionfando poi nelle categorie di Best Direction, Best Art Direction e Best Visual Effects.

Il titolo di Artist Of The Year è invece andato a Justin Bieber, che si è presentato all'evento come l'artista più nominato, essendo in gara in nove categorie. La star canadese è tuttavia riuscita a vincere solo un altro premio, quello come Best Pop, grazie alla hit “Peaches” con Daniel Ceasar e Giveon.

Come c'era da aspettarsi, Billie Eilish e Olivia Rodrigo sono state tra le artiste maggiormente premiate: la cantante classe 2001 ha vinto nelle categorie di Best Latin e Video For Good, rispettivamente con “Lo Vas A Olvidar” feat Rosalía e con “Your Power”, mentre l'autrice di “driver's license” ha ottenuto i premi di Song Of The Year, Best New Artist e Push Performance Of The Year.

Tra gli altri vincitori troviamo poi Travis Scott, che ha portato a casa il titolo di Best Hip-Hop per il video di “Franchise”, e Doja Cat, che grazie al brano “Kiss Me More” con SZA ha ottenuto il premio per la Migliore Collaborazione.
