Come da tradizione anche quest'anno lo Staples Center di Los Angeles ha ospitato il più grande appuntamento dell'industria musicale americana: anche per noi europei che vediamo da fuori con gli occhi sbarrati, le premiazioni dei Grammy Awards rappresentano uno degli eventi più importanti dell'anno nella scena mondiale.

Va detto subito che questa 63esima edizione ha avuto istanze del tutto inedite per via del Covid, situazione a cui l'evento si è prontamente adattato. Escluso il pubblico dal vivo come buona parte degli stessi partecipanti, a sfilare sulle passerelle e a salire sul palco per animare la serata pochi cantanti selezionati tra i nomi più importanti del panorama mondiale oltre che tra quelli nelle nomination: Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion, Taylor Swift, Roddy Ricch, Bruno Mars alcuni esempi. Nonostante questo si è cercato di mantenere il più possibile lo spirito di festa che caratterizza questi momenti, con la grande attesa connessa ai nomi vincenti che è rimasta invariata.


Tolte le aspre polemiche mosse da The Weeknd per la sua ingiustificabile esclusione, le scelte della giuria dell'Accademy hanno in parte confermato i pronostici e in parte rivelato piacevoli sorprese. L'edizione si tinge di rosa con un numero di donne vincitrici difficilmente eguagliabile: da qui nasce anche il primo record della serata con Beyoncé che raggiunge quota 28 Grammy in carriera e diventa così l'artista più premiata di sempre. La statuetta per il miglior videoclip musicale ha coinvolto anche sua figlia, Ivy Blue, che diventa così la seconda vincitrice più giovane della storia.

Sono ancora altre donne a fare piazza pulita di premi: Taylor Swift per l'album dell'anno “Folklore”, H.E.R per la canzone dell'anno “I Can't Breath”, Billie Eilish per l'estratto dell'anno “Everything I Wanted”. Doppietta per Megan Thee Stallion che si porta a casa sia il premio come migliore novità che per la traccia rap dell'anno, "Savage (Remix)" con ancora una volta Beyoncé. Miglior album pop va a Dua Lipa con “Future Nostalgia” mentre Ariana Grande e Lady Gaga con “Rain On Me” vincono per la miglior performance pop di gruppo. La prodigiosa Fiona Apple, invece, premiata per la migliore canzone rock, “Shameika”, e il miglior album alternative, “Fetch the Bolt Cutters”. Dopo le polemiche dello scorso anno è stata esclusa la categoria urban generalmente riconducibile all'R&B: miglior disco a John Legend, a Thundercat per l'R&B sperimentale, ancora a Beyoncé per la migliore performance nel genere.

Riapriamo invece il capitolo rap con la prima vittoria della ventennale carriera di Nas: è suo il disco rap dell'anno con “King's Disease” che spezza una personale maledizione durata 13 nomination. Le melodie avvolgenti di Anderson.Paak gli valgono la migliore performance di rap melodico, categoria che esclusa la sua “Lockdown” conteneva tracce con sonorità ben differenti. Nota a margine anche Kanye West che con “Jesus Is King” ha il curioso premio di miglior album di musica cristiana contemporanea.

Concludiamo proprio con uno dei protagonisti assoluti della serata, Harry Styles, che dopo essersi impegnato nella parte introduttiva dell'evento in una notevole esibizione viene insignito del premio per la miglior performance pop solista con “Watermelon Sugar”.
